Mindfulness has become very common in psychotherapy and counselling - for good reasons. It is a helpful set of skills we can learn for life, and it has been scientifically shown to be extremely useful when dealing with psychological difficulties. Scientists have also discovered the benefits of mindfulness techniques to help improve physical health in many different ways.

Mindfulness works by helping to develop a different relationship to the difficulties we experience in life. Rather than pushing difficulties way, or trying to escape from them, mindfulness skills allow us to turn towards the difficulties and face them in such a way that we can respond to them in a wiser way, rather than just constantly reacting in our old ways.

In recent years, psychotherapists have turned to mindfulness meditation as an important element in the treatment of a number of problems, including:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • couples’ conflicts
  • stress
  • obsessive-compulsive behaviours
  • high blood pressure
  • chronic pain
  • sleep difficulties

It’s become increasingly common for mindfulness meditation to be combined with psychotherapy, especially cognitive therapy.

I offer Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for individuals, couples and groups.

Life Coaching

Sometimes the issues you are struggling with may not need psychotherapy or counselling, and it may be more helpful to have a small number of Life Coaching sessions which would allow you to consider your current situation and think about what you want to do with your one precious life. Life Coaching offers some private time to think, plan and explore the skills required to attain the outcomes you wish to achieve in your life.

Some examples of how coaching can help:

  • Developing self esteem
  • Finding your personal life direction
  • Making difficult decisions
  • Building confidence
  • Dealing with job loss
  • Dealing with negative thinking and brooding

Supervision for professionals

I offer clinical and professional supervision to people working in the field of pscyhotherapy who use systemic approaches and/or mindfulness-based approaches.
